We've spent a lot of time talking about goofiest cliffhangers or goofiest cliffhanger resolutions. But what is everyone's favorite goofiest moment in
a chapter. I have several. One is in Chapter Five of Atom Man vs. Superman. Terry Frost opens a wooden crate to show Rusty Wescoatt that Superman's
x-ray vision turned the material in the box into pure Uranium. So as they stand there admiring the bright glow, neither is concerned that they and everyone
else in the room just got contaminated with radiation, not to mention a wooden box isn't exactly ample protection either (it's right up there with
Ralph Meeker opening a similarly filled metal box in Kiss Me Deadly and only getting a small burn on his wrist).
Two is in Chapter Seven of Mysterious Mr. M where Danny Morton explains to Edmund MacDonald that he will be puncturing Richard Martin's eardrum and inserting a miniature receiver in his inner ear so that they can give him orders without anyone else hearing, completely forgetting that if you puncture the eardrum and insert something, all the fluid would leak out and the person receiving this treatment would not be able to hear any instructions sent over the receiver.
And Three is in Chapter Eleven of The Fighting Marines where under average height Jason Robards, Sr. successfully strangles larger than average height Richard Alexander to death when he tries to quit the gang.
